Prof. Tomaso Poggio has been invited to give the keynote address, at the Festival della Scienza - Genova Italy, on Sat., Oct. 31, 2015.

Unraveling the Mystery of intelligence
The ambition and the limits of science

Keynote address by Tomaso Poggio
Moderator: Massimo Russo

The Dartmouth Summer Research Project of 1956 is generally recognized as the birth of artificial intelligence research as a separate discipline. Then, AI pioneer Marvin Minsky declared: "Within a generation ... the problem of creating 'artificial intelligence' will substantially be solved."

Not only did it not happen - while acknowledging the great advances of recent year - recent results have shown the limits of computer science.

Today, as stated by Tomaso Poggio, thanks to neuroscience, cognitive science and computer science, we know much more about the biological brain and how it works. Today, we can begin to apply this knowledge to the design of intelligent machines.
