We are excited to present The Concordia Contest at NeurIPS 2024. This contest challenges participants to advance the cooperative intelligence of language model (LM) agents in rich, text-based environments, based on the recently released Concordia framework which uses language models to create open-ended worlds similar to tabletop role-playing games. The goal of participants in the Concordia contest is to design computational agent architectures capable of role playing as people in situations where they need to cooperate with one another in groups that also contain strangers. The test requires zero-shot generalization to new social situations not seen during the development phase of the contest.

‍As a precursor (not a requirement for the contest participation!) to The Concordia Contest at NeurIPS 2024, the Cooperative AI Foundation and Apart Research will also be running a two-day hackathon on Advancing the Cooperative Intelligence of Language Model Agents on the first weekend of September (September 6th - September 8th 2024). Winning teams will receive part of the $2,000 prize pool and get a feel for customizing agents in the Concordia environment ahead of the contest (see tutorial/demo).

September 10 - October 31: Development phase begins
October 31 - November 20: Evaluation and review phase
November 20: Winners notified
December 3: Deadline for submission of entry details
December 9-14: NeurIPS 2024

2. Top performers will also be invited to co-author a paper on the contest, to be submitted to the NeurIPS 2025 Datasets & Benchmarks track.
3. Travel grants to support participants from underrepresented groups.
